#TeamREV Spotlight: FTC #365 MOE

Dec 4th 2023

For this week's #TeamREV spotlight, we're introducing you to FTC Team MOE 365!

Tell us a little bit about your team’s background.

We are a community-based FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team in Wilmington, Delaware. Our team was founded in 2007 and consists of middle and high school students from a variety of schools. Our sponsors (DuPont, LabWare, Boeing, Corteva, First State Robotics, and REV Robotics), have provided multiple forms of support. Our 22-23 season's robot name was DynaMOE.

Our team has eleven members, divided into three subteams: mechanical, programming, and communications/outreach. Each subteam simultaneously contributes towards progress on the robot, advancing each mechanism to smoothly integrate towards a first generation design.

Because the Delaware FTC community is a relatively small program, our team is actively trying to grow and strengthen it. We do this by providing various outreach efforts, resources, and mentorship to newer teams since we are a veteran team with a lot of experience.

What are some of your team's proudest achievements?

  • Our team has won the Delaware Inspire Award for the past three seasons and attended FIRST Championship for the past two seasons.
  • We started and mentored a new FTC team, Robo-Sapiens #19889, in the 2021-22 season.
  • Last season, we attended 6 community outreach events and participated in 5 other events where we connected with the Delaware FIRST community. Through those events, we were able to reach and impact approximately 575 people.
    • HBCU Week with DuPont: This event was a great way for us to reach an area of Wilmington that we don’t typically go to for outreach. We were able to strengthen our sponsor relations with DuPont, one of our founding sponsors. Our well-established connections have resulted in a schedule of over 20 upcoming events for the season, meticulously organized and arranged in collaboration with various partner organizations.
  • This season, we have already completed three outreach sessions (STEM Summer Camp, Nature’s Dyes, and Creepy Chemistry) at the Hagley Museum. Our team has strengthened our existing partnership with this local museum by bringing robot demos to visitors and allowing kids and families to drive bots, learn about FIRST programs, and increase interest in STEM in youth. We look forward to the 11 upcoming events throughout the season that have been planned and coordinated with multiple partner organizations.

What goals have your team been working on recently?

  • Our main goal is to strengthen the sustainability of the Delaware FTC ecosystem. We are working towards supporting every team by hosting seminars and workshops, so they can learn more about engineering processes, outreach, and documentation. We also coordinate and attend various outreach events and empower youth to pursue FIRST programs. Through these efforts, we have been able to help many teams and inspire underserved communities in Delaware.
  • Our marketing team has been hard at work recruiting new students, starting local community teams, and beginning to plan and implement our #MOEmentum Initiative. Our #TeamREV FTC team serves as a hub for inter-connected mentorship and cross-program development to build and sustain teams across our state.
  • Last season, we implemented the new Mentorship Advisory Team where our team was able to reach industry professionals and host 5 focus sessions to help refine our team’s processes. We want to reach out to even more industry professionals for in-person lab tours and presentations, so our team members can learn about current industry standards in engineering.
  • Our robot is in production, with testing and modeling happening each week on and off the field. Our team has been hard at work honing CAD skills, working on prototyping our robot, and making improvements to autonomous pathing.

We love having MOE 365 as part of #TeamREV and can't wait to hear about their continuing impacts in Delaware! Find MOE 365 on these platforms:
