#TeamREV Spotlight: FTC #18240 RoboScout Squad

Introducing our first FTC #TeamREV Spotlight for #NationalRoboticsWeek: Team #18240, RoboScout Squad, from Kalispell, Montana!

Tell us a little bit about your team’s background.

We started as an FLL team in 2017, winning the FLL Champion’s Award in 2020. We moved up to FTC when the 2020 FIRST Championship was canceled. We are a Girl Scout team and the only all-girls FTC team in our region. Our robot’s name is Pascal and our team theme this season is “Tangled” because Rapunzel is the artsy princess. Pascal is even armed with a frying pan.

What are a few recent achievements your team is proud of?

  1. Having a robot ready fast enough to compete in early scrimmages. 
  2. Hosting/running the first scrimmage in Northwest Montana.
  3. Winning the Inspire Award at the Montana Championship.

What has your team been working on recently?

We are so excited to be going to FIRST Championship this year! We sure are busy getting ready. We had 2 amazing "on theme" outreach activities. First we met with Bonnie, a current stagecraft professor at SUNY who was the first female Senior Project Manager at PRG. We learned about her career and path, and all the amazing STEM careers in the world of stage, event, music and film production. We also met with Wrap Hive in their shop and learned how to work with vehicle wraps. Our lead programmer Marin made a design for our robot’s side panels. We were able to then watch it print and cut. We then learned and completed the process of wrapping our robot with the new custom graphics. Both of these professional connections allowed us to share what we do in FIRST and learn about STEAM careers related to the arts.

What is your favorite part about being in the #TeamREV program?

We love the camaraderie with the other teams. We encourage each other in a way that feels more impactful than normal. It’s a fueling energy we can pass to others.
